A “Last Call” program, focusing on the architecture and history of our historic 1876 synagogue. Join us for these final programs in the synagogue before it is moved as part of the Capitol Crossing development.
Samuel D. Gruber, Ph.D, accomplished researcher, author, curator and consultant (and Fitch Fellow 2006!), is the leading expert on the documentation, protection and preservation of historic Jewish sites and monuments. The Society is delighted to host Dr. Gruber for two spring programs. These events are made possible by DC Preservation League’s Preservation Initiatives Grant and the MARPAT Foundation.
This illustrated lecture will tell the story of the documentation, protection and preservation of American Jewish historic sites. Dr. Samuel Gruber will highlight the origins and evolution of the movement to preserve historic synagogues, and discuss the most pressing challenges facing the preservation ;movement today. He’ll also focus on synagogue moves, including the recent move of the Brenham synagogue in Texas and the past and future moves of our historic 1876 synagogue.
